Cape Verde experienced a significant degradation in internet connectivity beginning on the evening of August 31, 2026. The disruption, which lasted for over six hours, was most pronounced in active network reachability measurements, with a severity score of 7,679 recorded across three distinct periods of impact.

Technical Details

The primary affected metric was the ping-slash24 signal, which measures the reachability of IPv4 network prefixes using ICMP probes. This signal recorded three separate degradation periods between 18:10 UTC on August 31 and 00:30 UTC on September 1. The aggregate severity for these events was 7,679.

Other signals showed varied impacts. The gtr-norm signal, which tracks normalized traffic volume against a forecasted baseline, dropped by 10% from its peak. The merit-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity derived from backscatter measurements, showed a more substantial 87% drop from its peak. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane signal, which reflects routing advertisement visibility, remained stable throughout the event.

Reported Cause

The cause of the connectivity degradation has not been publicly attributed.

Network reachability had not fully recovered by the end of the observation window.
