Chad experienced a brief, moderate disruption to its internet routing infrastructure on the evening of July 7. The event, which lasted approximately 20 minutes, primarily affected the country’s Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane visibility.

Technical Details

The disruption occurred between 19:05 and 19:25 UTC. The BGP signal recorded a severity score of 68, indicating a 3% drop in the median number of visible IPv4 prefixes from Chad. This signal measures the control plane visibility of a country’s internet routing prefixes to the global BGP table.

Other network signals showed less pronounced deviations. The ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 /24 prefixes, recorded a 17% drop from its peak. The merit-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity based on backscatter measurements, showed a temporary reduction. The gtr-norm signal, which tracks deviations from an expected traffic baseline, also registered a brief dip.

Reported Cause

The cause of the disruption has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity was reported restored by 19:25 UTC.
