The Democratic Republic of the Congo experienced a brief but measurable disruption to its internet routing infrastructure early on August 22. The event, centered on the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), lasted approximately 15 minutes starting at 00:55 UTC.

Technical Details

The disruption registered a severity score of 16. The primary affected signal was the BGP median, which measures the control plane visibility and stability of advertised network prefixes. While the drop in the BGP signal was measured at 1% from its peak, other network health indicators showed more significant deviations during the observation window. The gtr-norm signal, which tracks traffic volume against a baseline, recorded a 61% drop from its peak. The merit-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity, fell by 74%.

The cause has not been publicly attributed. No specific events or maintenance announcements were reported in public channels in the days preceding the disruption.

Network conditions were reported as stable following the brief event.
