Equatorial Guinea experienced a prolonged, multi-day degradation in its international internet connectivity beginning on July 14. The disruption, which lasted over 12 days, primarily affected the network’s control plane visibility, with a severity score of 44,088 recorded. Connectivity was reported restored by the early hours of July 27.
Technical Details
The disruption was observed from 18:35 UTC on July 14 until 00:30 UTC on July 27. The primary affected metric was the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) signal, which measures the control plane visibility of a country’s network prefixes to the global internet. The BGP signal recorded a severity score of 44,088, with a measured drop of 3% from its peak visibility.
Other network health indicators also showed deviations. The gtr-norm signal, a measure of traffic volume compared to an expected baseline, showed a 21% drop from its peak. The ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 address blocks, showed a 5% drop in reachability during the event.
The cause has not been publicly attributed.
The disruption remained ongoing for over 12 days before restoration was observed.
