Ghana’s internet connectivity experienced a brief but notable disruption to its control plane on Monday, August 25, 2026. The event, which affected the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), lasted approximately 40 minutes, starting at 12:20 UTC and concluding by 13:00 UTC.

Technical Details

The disruption registered a severity score of 41, with the primary impact observed on the BGP signal. This signal measures the control plane visibility of network prefixes, indicating a temporary reduction in the number of routes being advertised from within the country. A drop of approximately 1% from the peak was recorded in the median BGP route count during the event.

Other measurement signals showed varied but less pronounced activity. The ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 /24 prefixes, recorded a 4% drop from its peak. The gtr-norm signal, a forecast deviation from an expected traffic baseline, showed a 10% drop. The merit-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity based on backscatter measurements, recorded a more significant 60% drop from its peak value.

The cause has not been publicly attributed. The disruption was resolved within the observation window.
