Ghana experienced a significant internet connectivity disruption on Wednesday, August 20, 2026, affecting both data plane reachability and network control plane visibility. The event began at approximately 04:50 UTC and lasted for nearly four hours, with a peak severity score of 589,403 recorded during the observation window.

Technical Details

The disruption was characterized by a sharp drop in the ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 network prefixes. This signal recorded a severity score of 3,640, with reachability dropping by up to 27% from its peak. Concurrently, the bgp signal, which reflects the visibility of network prefixes in the global routing system, showed a 3% decline and a severity score of 201, indicating instability in the control plane.

Other measurement signals corroborated the event. The gtr-norm signal, a normalized traffic volume indicator, fell by 48% from its peak. The merit-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity, experienced a severe 95% drop from its maximum observed value. The cause has not been publicly attributed.

The disruption remained ongoing at the end of the observation period at 08:30 UTC.
