Kiribati experienced a brief disruption to its internet control plane on August 8, 2026. The event, which lasted approximately 25 minutes, was characterized by a degradation in Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) visibility. The disruption began at 19:50 UTC and concluded by 20:15 UTC.

Technical Details

The event registered a severity score of 47. The primary affected metric was the BGP median signal, which measures the control plane visibility of a country’s advertised IP prefixes. The signal showed a 2% drop from its peak during the observation window. Concurrently, active probing for ICMP reachability across IPv4 /24 prefixes recorded a more pronounced 27% drop in reachable networks. The country’s aggregate traffic volume, as measured by the gtr-norm signal, also showed a significant deviation, falling 78% from its expected baseline during the event.

Connectivity was reported restored following the brief disruption.
