Tunisia experienced a significant, prolonged disruption to internet connectivity beginning on August 24. The event, which lasted for approximately two and a half days, primarily impacted the reachability of its IPv4 network infrastructure. The disruption concluded around 00:30 UTC on August 27.

Technical Details

The connectivity degradation recorded a severity score of 76,117. The primary affected signal was ping-slash24, which measures ICMP reachability across the country’s IPv4 /24 network prefixes. This signal showed a drop in reachable networks during the event period.

Other network telemetry showed concurrent deviations. The gtr signal, a forecast of expected traffic volume, recorded a 24% drop from its peak. The merit-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity based on backscatter measurements, showed a 19% decline. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane, which advertises network routes, remained stable throughout the event, showing no significant withdrawal of announced prefixes.

The cause of the multi-day disruption has not been publicly attributed.

Network connectivity was reported as restored by the end of the observation window.
