Guam Connectivity Disruption Lasted Over 1.4 Days

alert2blue

Guam experienced a significant internet connectivity disruption lasting over 1.4 days, beginning on July 5 at 15:20 UTC. The event, which concluded by 00:30 UTC on July 7, primarily affected the reachability of network prefixes across the island.

Technical Details

The disruption recorded a severity score of 40,055. The primary affected signal was ping-slash24, a measurement of ICMP reachability across IPv4 /24 prefixes, which showed a 17% drop from its peak performance. Other signals showed more significant deviations. The gtr-norm signal, which measures traffic volume against a baseline, fell by 69%. The merit-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity, recorded a 90% drop from its peak. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane, which manages routing information, showed minimal change.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation period.
