Liberia experiences connectivity degradation for over three hours
Liberia experienced a significant degradation in internet connectivity for over three hours early on May 24. The disruption, which began at 00:40 UTC and lasted until 03:50 UTC, primarily affected active network reachability measurements.
Technical Details
The event recorded a severity score of 3,981, with the core impact observed in the ping-slash24 signal. This signal measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 /24 network prefixes. The signal’s median value dropped by 11% from its peak during the event.
Other network telemetry showed varied impacts. The gtr-norm signal, a forecast deviation from expected traffic, fell by 91% from its peak. The merit-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity based on backscatter, dropped by 100%. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane, which manages routing announcements, remained stable with no observed drop. The cause has not been publicly attributed.
Connectivity was reported restored by 03:50 UTC.
