Syria experienced a disruption in its Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) routing on Tuesday, August 31, 2026. The event began at 04:55 UTC and lasted for approximately one hour and forty-five minutes, concluding around 06:40 UTC. The disruption was characterized by a significant reduction in the median number of visible BGP routes.

Technical Details

The event recorded a severity score of 732, based on the deviation in the BGP median signal. This signal measures the control plane visibility of internet routing prefixes, indicating a reduction in the number of routes being advertised and seen globally. Concurrent measurements showed a 7% drop in the median BGP route count from its peak during the observation window. Other network signals, including active probing for IPv4 reachability and traffic volume forecasts, showed lesser or no significant deviations during the same period.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Network routing was observed to have returned to prior levels by the end of the disruption period.
