Tanzania experienced a Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) disruption on Monday, July 7, 2026. The event began at 10:05 UTC and concluded at 12:30 UTC, lasting approximately two and a half hours. The disruption was characterized by a significant drop in BGP control plane visibility.

Technical Details

The disruption registered a severity score of 192. The BGP signal, which measures the visibility of network prefixes in the global routing table, showed a drop of 1% from its peak during the observation window. Concurrently, other connectivity signals showed varying degrees of impact. The ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 /24 prefixes, recorded a 16% drop from its peak. The gtr-norm signal, a forecast deviation from expected traffic baseline, showed a 12% drop. The merit-nt signal, an aggregate connectivity proxy based on backscatter measurements, showed a more pronounced 64% drop from its peak.

Reported Cause

The cause of the connectivity disruption has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation period.
