U.S. Virgin Islands Experiences Brief Connectivity Disruption

alert2blue

The U.S. Virgin Islands experienced a brief connectivity disruption on Monday morning, July 7, 2026. The event lasted approximately 35 minutes, beginning at 06:15 UTC and concluding by 06:50 UTC. A control plane signal registered a severity score of 103 during the event.

Technical Details

The primary affected signal was the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) median, which measures control plane visibility for network prefixes. This signal recorded a 3% drop from its peak value during the observation window. Other network telemetry showed concurrent, more pronounced dips: aggregate traffic volume (gtr-norm) fell 60% from its peak, while a backscatter measurement signal (merit-nt) dropped 100%. ICMP reachability across IPv4 /24 prefixes (ping-slash24) also decreased by 8%.

The cause has not been publicly attributed. Connectivity was reported restored by 06:50 UTC.
